The Story in Short
A clever monkey lived in a berry tree by a river and became friends with a crocodile, sharing sweet berries with him every day. The crocodile took some berries home to his wife, who greedily wished to eat the heart of the monkey who ate such sweet fruit.
The crocodile sadly agreed to trick his friend. He offered to carry the monkey across the river on his back, then revealed that he planned to take the monkey’s heart to his wife.
The quick-thinking monkey stayed calm and said he had left his heart back in the tree. The foolish crocodile turned around to fetch it, and the moment they reached the bank, the monkey leapt to safety in his tree, escaping the danger through his cleverness.
