The Greedy Dog

Once upon a time, a dog lived in a small village. One day, he was very hungry and wandered through the streets looking for food.

After a long search, the dog found a big, juicy bone near a butcher’s shop. He was very happy. He picked up the bone in his mouth and ran towards his home.

On the way home, the dog had to cross a narrow wooden bridge over a river. He trotted across the bridge happily, holding his bone tightly.

When he reached the middle of the bridge, he looked down at the water below. In the calm water, he could see a reflection.

The dog did not know it was his own reflection. He thought it was another dog with a bigger and juicier bone in its mouth!

“That bone looks much bigger than mine!” thought the greedy dog. “I must get that bone too!”

Without thinking, the dog opened his mouth wide and barked loudly at the reflection to scare the other dog away.

As soon as he opened his mouth, his own bone fell out and dropped into the river with a splash.

The dog watched helplessly as his bone sank to the bottom of the river. The reflection disappeared too.

The greedy dog was left with nothing. He went home hungry and sad, regretting his foolish greed.
